Waxworks combines photographic prints, color and black and white, with a version of an ancient greek technique of encaustic painting (beeswax and oil paint pigment), which dates back to 800 BC. At Waxworks we use your imagery to create a unique fine art piece. Waxworks prints your image from a digital file sent through e-mail. These photos are then mounted onto a wooden panel with archival glue. Then the image receives a surface treatment that combines natural beeswax and an oil paint medium. Ultimately, giving your client a work of fine art.
There are special aspects to the paint medium and the beeswax that make it truly one of a kind. It has a satin surface and will enhance and alter imagery in beautiful ways. There may be tiny air bubbles in the wax or small surface specs and colors may vary slightly from one piece to the next. These qualities are very exciting and they are inherent to the encaustic medium, they do not affect the longevity of the work. Each piece is made with the finest materials, such as archival glue, fine photo paper, natural beeswax and gesso treated wood. Each piece is also made by hand; there is care and expertise applied to each individual piece.
Tips
- Best results are seen using images with more light areas than dark areas.
- Wax softens highlights and deepens shadows.
- Images with simple composition work very well.
- Images can be color, sepia or black and white.
- The white or cream looks very good with color images.
- Crop the image exactly how you want to see it on the panel.
- Both flat and box panels can be custom framed by Waxworks.
- When choosing a color tint, we recommend your print be:
1. sepia when choosing a sepia tint.
2. black and white print should choose a white, grey or light blue tint.
3. color photos should choose the color tint that reflects the existing colors in the image.
The purpose of the oil tint is to enhance the photo's already existing tonality.
